In memory of one of its past members, the Michigan Geocaching Organization will be sponsoring a $300.00 scholarship aimed at assisting our next generation of Michigan youth in their studies of outdoor recreational activities, in hopes of helping them gain an appreciation of the outdoors while learning to be good stewards of Michigan's land conservation and the environment in general.

Application is open October 1st, 2019 through January 1st, 2020.  The recipient will be announced at Winter Social 2020.

2019 MiGO Election

The 2019 Nomination period for positions on the MiGO Executive Committee and Regional Vice Presidents has come to a close.  An election will not be necessary as we do not have more nominations than positions.  It looks like we will have the two vacancies on the Executive Committee filled!  That is good news.

We are, however, still lacking Regional Vice Presidents for two regions, SW and UP.  Our SW RVP, Kneel More, will be retiring after the Winter Social.  We thank him for his excellent service.  We have been lacking a UP RVP for a few years.

RVPs are responsible for supporting the goals and mission of MiGO, promoting geocaching, being the liaison with members and park managers, and supporting local events and CITO's within their region.  RVPs will be given a budget for the purpose of supporting events.

If you are interested in helping this organization in the SW or UP region, click the button below and fill out the self nomination form.  You will need to be a MiGO member over the age of 18 to serve, but the one year minimum membership is not a requirement as volunteers for open positions are evaluated by the Board of Directors.

Be aware that the two RVP positions are all that will be considered at this time.

Welcome!!!!

You have reached the homepage of the Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO). The purpose of our organization is to promote the sport of Geocaching in Michigan via improved communications and to provide information to the public about our activities and the sport of geocaching. Please spend some time on our site. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us or visit www.geocaching.com for more details.

Join MiGO Today! Membership gives you many benefits. MiGO is one of the oldest and most respected Geocaching organizations in the country. Since our inception in April, 2002 we have grown both in size and stature. In 2007 we were granted an organizational land use permit by the Michigan DNR. This permit is paid annually by MiGO and enables all our members to place caches on permitted DNR lands, with the appropriate permit where required, at no fee. This is just one of the many benefits of your membership. You'll also become part of a local and tight-knit Geocaching community with an active interest in caching in our state. Our forums are very active and are a great place to meet cachers and learn.

MiGO Master Challenge

As one of the oldest and most well-known geocaching organizations, MiGO has been invited to participate in a pre-release testing process for something that HQ is building called: “Group Geocaching” Since HQ believes geocaching is a good fit for organizational team-building, as well as an attractive wellness perk for employees, they believe the product will be popular with businesses and other non-geocaching organizations.

Since we know all the basics of the game, MiGO (and a select few others) have been invited to help them out. HQ wants our feedback on this process as they continue development and refinements.  We decided to make it a challenge to get more people interested.

The “MiGO Master Challenge” is only open to Supporting Members in good standing. To participate in the challenge, you must opt-in, you will have to provide your geocaching email address, and agree to respond to polls and surveys regarding program (most likely feedback at the end).

This will look very similar to the “Leaderboard” that you can find under your profile at geocaching.com, but will be only MiGO members and only available to MiGO participants. You will earn points for caching and the person(s) with the most points at the end of the challenge period, will be deemed the “MiGO Challenge Master”!

Registration is open as of Monday, November 4th and close Friday, November 15th. We will be limited to the first 275 registrations, so get yours in early. The challenge will then run from Monday, November 25th until Friday, February 21st, where the winner will be announced at the MiGO Winter Social!

Camp MiGO 2020

The First Annual MiGO Summer Camping Weekend has come and gone and was a great success.  A large crowd enjoyed a great lunch and great weather in a beautiful park full of new caches.

In 2020, Camp MiGO will become a "tradition".  Save the weekend:

      August 21-23, 2020

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Haunted Hollow crew for hiding the caches for Camp MiGO and helping out with the "new" event.

We would also like to thank Sleepy Hollow State Park for continuing to host a major caching event.

Watch this space and the MiGO Event Calendar for more information for 2020

MSPC GeoTour

Michigan's first Official GeoTour celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Michigan's State Parks kicked off with a bang May 24th, 2019.

As of November 4th we have accumulated

3938 Favorite Points!

MSPCGT:Yankee Springs RA-Yankee Springs Inn (GC801TF) is the first hide on the tour to reach 100 Favorite Points.  Congratulations to The Macho Homemaker for his incredible creation.

As of October 26th, the stats are:

18594  Logged Finds by
2522     Geocachers

To say this GeoTour exceeds our expectations is a huge understatement.

Please note that geocaching in State Parks, Recreation Areas and Scenic Sites is limited to Day Use Hours, 8AM to 10PM unless otherwise noted.

This GeoTour was created and is managed by MiGO volunteers and funded by your fellow geocachers.  Be sure to thank them.

Challenge of the Month

MiGO wants to get you more involved in Geocaching and in MiGO.  To that end, in early 2018. we created the Challenge of the Month.  Challenges will be different for each month of the year.  Each month's challenge will be different from the others.
The Challenge of the Month season runs from February to January of the next year,  culminating at the Winter Social.  Each challenge begins on the first day of the month and runs through the last day of the month.  Caches must be found and logged during the monthly challenge period.

We want every member to be able to participage, so every challenge will have a minimum of three and sometimes four levels:

Bronze Level: Pretty much everyone should be able to do these, though some may have you step out of your comfort zone a little!
Silver Level: These will be a bit tougher – it’s a way to push yourself as a cacher!  Can you complete the Silver Level Challenge?
Gold Level:  These are for the most dedicated and hardcore cachers out there!  Challenge yourself to the max and see if you can complete these very tough challenges!
Platinum Level:  These awill really challenge the  most dedicated and hardcore cachers out there!

MiGO Store

We are looking at new items to put in the store and are always interested in your feedback.  Is there something you think that the store should have for sale?  Please let us know.

The funding to support our organization is derived through member contributions via donations, purchases in our store, and supporting memberships. We appreciate your interest in our organization and our store and invite you to look around. If you have any questions, you can email us at store@mi-geocaching.org

MiGO and You

This is the home of the Michigan Geocaching Organization or MiGO. Geocaching is closing in on 20 years of existence and MiGO has been a part of most of that. Our goal is to promote the activity of geocaching by helping geocachers and those looking to get into geocaching. What can we do to help you? Take a look around and let us know what you think. Feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions. Happy caching!

MiGO Member

BIG things are going on at MiGO, and I just wanted to take a minute to let you know what some of them are:

Last May we started the "MiGO Challenge of the Month".  The "Second Season" kicked off March 1st.  Participation is really picking up.  We'd like everyone to have the chance at coveted prizes awarded to some lucky member each month.  Check out the Forum page on the mi-geocaching.org website for more information.

August 2019

Come to Camp MiGO the weekend of August 17th.  Check out the panel on  the home page.

MSPC GeoTour
The Spring of 2019 put Michigan on the world geocaching map with our first official GeoTour!  MiGO and the Michigan Department of Resources continue working together on this GeoTour celebrating the 100th anniversary of Michigan's State Parks.

There are many more things to announce, but they're not quite ready yet.  The new Executive Committee is working hard to restore your faith in our organization.  We have new merchandise in the pipeline for the store.  We have unique and exclusive path tags for you to acquire, we will have a bigger presence at events around the state and be making donations in cash and in-kind for events of all types and sizes.  Let your RVP know if you have an event coming up that you would like MiGO to help with.

Membership Cost

The new site is paid for by the month per active membership. If you pay the $10 supporting membership you are paying for the cost for a year. If you sign up for a free membership MiGO pays the cost. On the old site we had over 7000 listed memberships. Why that many? The answer is people checking the site signed up for free membership and never come back. Signing up every three months weeds those inactive memberships out keeping our cost down.  Which is cheaper paying for 150 members or 7,000?

We  have made big strides in the number of supporting members, but we still have a long way to go to break even.  Are you willing to become Supporting Members!
