My Favorite TOTT

Is it a 24ft reach extension pole? Perhaps one of my many flashlights of all sizes and types? An extendable magnet? The spiffy extendable mirror with LED lights? Tweezers for those pesky little tiny logs? A grabber sure comes in handy so maybe it's that. Pliers for a hard to open container maybe?

Nope. None of the above. My favorite TOTT is my hat. Keeps the sun and rain off your head and out of your eyes. It's great for crashing through the woods with your head down to ward off spider webs and pokey branches. Worried about various outdoor cooties getting into your hair? Just wear your hat to banish them. Bothersome hornets in that LPC? No problem. Take your hat off and swat them away. Lost your hearing aid or glasses in the woods by snagging them on a bush or tree? Not if you're wearing that hat, you won't.

So be happy and worry free. Wear your hat and maybe it'll become your favorite TOTT too.

Dan Cable - MiGO VP

My apologies for the lack of a spring issue.  As many of you know, I spend the winter and spring fighting the good fight against cancer.  I had surgery in April, and pathology reports a "complete and total response". No live cancer found in the tumor or lymph nodes.  I will however still be in active treatment for a minimum of 3 more years and have lots of lung rehabilitation to go.

My sincere thanks for all the prayers, good-vibes and well wishes.

From your Challenge Committee

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After holding a challenge asking all of you for ideas for upcoming challenges, your Challenge Committee has been hard at work discussing, building tools, testing, and getting them ready to play. Here's what's already running and what's coming up:

MiDNR Waterways Adventure Lab Challenge. May 15 to Sep 30, 2026. In an effort to increase awareness and participation in this AL based Geotour we're challenging you to find the 70 AL stops and/or any geocaches located within 1/2 mile of them. Prizes include regional pathtags and a Geocoin for completing the Waterways ALs. A random drawing for additional Geocoins will be held at the end of the challenge. The more you find or complete the more chances you get in the drawing.

The month of July will bring a 250 Challenge celebrating the 250th birthday of our nation. Find or hide caches with a title that reflects the theme and get entries for chances to win bragging rights and Geocoins in a random drawing. A number of large geoarts along with lots of other caches have been placed around the state for this to help you along. Runs July 4 to August 31, 2026.

We can hardly wait to start the next one after that. An Earthcache Challenge with a twist. Coming up in September and running through October in time for International Earthcache Day. A great opportunity to learn more about the fascinating geology of our planet.

While you're out and about either playing challenges or just geocaching aimlessly don't forget about our 2 other Michigan Geotours and a host of other county based challenges including historic caches, 100 caches in a county, and multiple cache types challenges for you to do. There's even a pin to celebrate finding at least 1 cache in each county.

Be sure to check out the MiGO homepage at Michigan Geocaching Organization for more information on how to play, score, and win.

To join the committee (we always need fresh ideas) shoot us a message.

This coin comes with one insert and can be ordered via the GeoTour Page on the MiGO site once you have earned enough caches to qualify in at least one region.

Michigan County Grid Challenge

A really BIG Challenge for everyone!  This is not a contest.  Everyone can qualify for a reward, not to mention bragging rights!
The challenge is a multi-year commitment by the MiGO Challenge Committee, EC and Board.  Can you cover half of the state (Bronze), three quarters of the state (Silver) or the entire state, (Gold), finding an assortment of geocache types in 42, 63 or 83 counties.  Who will top the leaderboard out of the gate?  Who will be the first to claim a prize?  Who will be first to reach for the Gold?
