TECHNICAL ISSUES

MiGO is having some technical issues with emails being sent from the organization to members.  Any email that uses an alias as the sender (examples: member_manger@, president@, treasurer@) are landing in SPAM and can not be corrected by users marking as "not spam" or adding addresses to an address book.  Likely this newsletter has ended up in SPAM.  We are continuing to work with our software providers on a solution.

Due to this issue, many members did not see their renewal notice!  Member status can be found by logging in and checking your expiration date in your profile.  If you expect to receive the 2026 member coin shown below, your membership must be current.
2027 Lake Superior Coin

This coin, which will light up under UV light is ONLY available to Lake Superior members who are on record and paid as of November 30, 2026

The Great North Get-Together '26!

August 29, 2026 was MiGO and Wisconsin Geocaching Association’s (WGA) first ever Joint Event!  WGA has patently been asking for this joint event for the past several years.  This was the year that worked best for MiGO.  After a year of planning, things came together perfectly! The event site selected was Depot Park in Ironwood, MI.  This ended up being the perfect location as the Iron Belle Trail runs right next to the park.  There were geocaches here but many more were published for this even by our partners.  The park is in the heart of Ironwood with lots to offer for everyone, food, shopping, history, and more.

One of our partners, Wandering Tracks, hosted two side events and a side CITO.  Another partner, lostcheq, published 23 puzzle caches on the Iron Belle Trail for this joint event. The puzzles were half MI half WI themed.  We had great weather for the event, well it sprinkled a little but that just forced cachers off the trails and to the pavilion for the event! We had approx 100 attendees at the main event.  Wisconsin and Michigan were the main attendees, however there were geocachers from Kansas and Minnesota. There was enough room for everyone plus to be under the pavilion.  This was a, ‘bring your meat and dish to pass’ type picnic.  We had 4 grills going for everyone to cook their own meat.

From the feedback so far, everyone had a great time at this weekend event!  Everyone seems to have loved the Bingo Card game.  Michigan cachers got a Bingo Card to be signed by Wisconsin cachers.  Wisconsin cachers got a Bingo Card to be signed by Michigan cachers.  Each organization drew cards from the other’s pile and awarded coins to the lucky winners.  We took a group photo just in the nick of time.  The sprinkles let up, the gray skies lightened and all the attendees headed out to go geocaching!

It’s been decided this Joint Event will be every other year.  So in 2028 WGA will take the lead on hosting it.  If you’re interested in joining the next Joint Event Work Committee contact MiGO now and get added committee list.  Thanks to everyone who attended the Joint Event, our Joint Even Work Committee Members, and our other partners!  Each of you contributed to making this event the success it was.  See you at the Border in 2028!

geocoin collage
Last year MiGO was gifted a very large collection of Geocoins,
Some vintage coins from early in the game before trackable was even a thing
Many other un-activated trackable coins.

MiGO is planning to  selectively putting some of these coins into the MiGO store and on the MiGO EBAY site.
Coin proceeds would be used to offer various awards to winners of our MiGO challenges hosted by the Challenge committee.

Watch the Facebook group and the store for listings.  Most coins will be offered first in the store before going to EBAY.   If you want an email notification Lynn will be creating a mailing group and will email when the listing are updated.  Email store@mi-geocaching.com to join the list.
Local author, Joan H. Young recently wrote this article published in the Mason County Press. It is a well-written account of a “newbie’s” adventure as she searched the “Cider Apples” geo-art for the first time. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did. Note; Photo is a link

In case you missed it, the current CHALLENGE is Earth Caches with a twist.  Running Sept 15th through Oct 31st, you'll get points for each unique D/T you complete and you can hide up to 3 for bonus points. Had your eye on that D5/T5 Earth Cache that requires a grappling hook and 250 feet of rope to get to? Well now's your chance.

The holidays will bring another Bingo card game for you to play then we're taking January and February off.

Next year as we start up again in March we'll be adding a much better selection of prizes for winners. Be sure to check the MiGO Home page for other ongoing challenges.

Michigan County Grid Challenge

A really BIG Challenge for everyone!  This is not a contest.  Everyone can qualify for a reward, not to mention bragging rights!
The challenge is a multi-year commitment by the MiGO Challenge Committee, EC and Board.  Can you cover half of the state (Bronze), three quarters of the state (Silver) or the entire state, (Gold), finding an assortment of geocache types in 42, 63 or 83 counties.  Who will top the leaderboard out of the gate?  Who will be the first to claim a prize?  Who will be first to reach for the Gold?
